About

Previous to the pandemic, the Modesto Nuts have executed the “Hometown Heroes” promotion annually in August. Recognizing a local community member for the outstanding work they do for their neighbors.

The Modesto Nuts are proud to partner with Crystal Creamery and Sutter Health to recognize local Frontline workers as part of the 2020 “Hometown Heroes” promotion. During this pandemic, countless local heroes have risked their own well-being for the betterment of their community. These heroes will be recognized with a weekly campaign on social media highlighting all their extraordinary accomplishments.

In addition to the recognition that these heroes will receive on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter the Modesto Nuts will be inviting all of them back to see a ballgame (as soon as circumstances allow). Each hero will receive 4 tickets to a future game and be invited to throw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to game start.

Our Hometown Heroes:

Kevin became an EMT because of his love for people and helping others. Kevin loves high tense situations and feels like he thrives in them, luckily as an EMT the job suited him well and lined up perfectly for him. While at the StanCoFair this year, Medics Plus received a distress call and Kevin was the first on the scene. Although he was scared, Kevin knew what to do, he began compressions. Kevin saved this man's life; he just wasn’t expecting his thank you to come in the form of a punch. Kevin would like to leave on this final note, “No one wants to come to an event with their loved one and something tragic happens. We’re happy the Modesto Nuts trust the MedicsPlus to take care of their staff and fans, we are all skilled and highly trained for this. We don’t do it for recognition; we do this because we love it.”

Thank You Kevin & MedicsPlus for all you do here at our stadium.

Our Next Crystal Creamery Hometown Hero is Devan Vo.

Devin has been a volunteer for Love Stanislaus County for over a decade. His most recognizable contribution is his service as Big Red, the Love Stanislaus County mascot. Devan is constantly willing to show up any time as the mascot and makes the days of so many children in our community when he does. Additionally, he has helped put up signs for Love Modesto and led several projects.

Outside of volunteering for us, Devan has helped serve food to the homeless, volunteers at his church and with several other organizations in the community.

Devan is an amazing human being with a heart for service and helping others. He NEVER complains and NEVER expects anything in return.

Devan your work changes lives and communities, we can all learn something from you, Thank you for making a difference here in Modesto.

Det. Davis was promoted to Detective with Modesto PD in December of 2018.

Det. Davis is one of two detectives whose primary job is investigating domestic violence. Recently our department saw a rise in domestic violence and we created a Domestic Violence Initiative in order to reduce domestic violence. Det. Davis was part of the planning, implementing/training and overseeing the Initiative. Det. Davis has a passion for domestic violence investigations. He cares for the victims and seeks permanent solutions.

Aside from Det. Davis’s primary job, he is involved in many other assignments here at Modesto Police department. Det. Davis is a CPR instructor, a Mobil Field Force member, and a member of our Honor Guard. I often hear from officers and supervisors how impressed they are with Det. Davis and his work product. Not too long ago we had a CPR first aid update training which was led by Det. Davis. I heard from several people how he can make a subject that is normally boring, enjoyable. This is due to his passion and love for his job.

In addition to his hard work and commitment to MPD, Det. Davis gives back to the community. Det. Davis is involved every year in the Special Olympics. Annually there is a Torch Run in Stanislaus County and Det. Davis is a “Captain” in the organization known as “Heroes of Stanislaus County”. Det. Davis is responsible for recruiting runners and donors for the annual torch run.

Thank You Det. Davis for protecting and serving our community on & off the clock
