Michael Savit, the owner of the Modesto Nuts is the Managing Partner of the HWS Group and possesses a strong background in sports marketing and promotions. For over 16 years, from 1981-1997, he worked for the Cleveland-based International Management Group (IMG), where he specialized in event management. In 1998, he and his brother, Jeffrey, a fiduciary attorney, founded HWS Group, named in honor of their late father, Herbert W. Savit, and purchased the Augusta GreenJackets of the South Atlantic League (presently the Single A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants). In 2000, the company purchased the Michigan BattleCats of the Midwest League. As former senior vice president of IMG with principal responsibility for directing professional sports events, and as a current minor league baseball owner, Michael brings unique expertise in sports marketing to his role as the owner of the Modesto Nuts.

Savit is also the managing general partner of the Mobile BayBears (AA Affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks), which the HWS Group purchased in October 2003. The intention of the HWS Group has been to combine his sports marketing experience with the community knowledge and baseball expertise of existing minor league franchises. In addition to its baseball activities, HWS Group, headquartered in Westwood, Massachusetts, manages an annual charity golf tournament, the HWS Golf Classic, in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and is involved in various philanthropic endeavors in the Boston area. Savit sits on the Board of Directors of the New England Sports Museum, and is a member of the Executive and Five-Year Planning Committees of the South Atlantic League. He also chairs the League's Finance Committee. A 1978 graduate of Harvard College, Michael resides in Sudbury, Massachusetts with his three children-Lauren (18), Matthew (15), and Hilary (10).
